Spring Concert: CHARMING BIRDS AND IMPROVISED ANIMALS
Songs to celebrate the animal kingdom

CinnaGals’ spring concert celebrates the coming of summer on the hooves, paws and wings of our favorite beasts. Here’s how:

Let’s kick off the concert with Summer from Vaughan Williams’ Folk Songs of the Four Seasons.

We’ll continue with a set of Italian animal madrigals:
El Grillo (The Cricket) by Josquin
La Turturella (The Turtledove) by Gorzanis
Cantan fra rami gl’augeletti vaghi (Charming Birds Sing among the Branches) by Asola
Contraponto Bestiale alla Mente (Improvised Animal Counterpoint) by Banchieri

Next comes a set of 21st-century compositions by Boston-based composer Maggie Furtak:
Semantic
The Plow Horse
Rabbits All Around
Ashes

Toss in a some summery, beastie Jazz:
Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree
Lullaby of Birdland
Let’s Do It

Add some small groups into the mix:
Bring Me Little Water Sylvie (Lead Belly)
I’ll Fly Away (Albert Brumley)
May I suggest (Susan Werner)
And so it goes (Billy Joel)

Stir gently, perhaps vigorously, and voila! A delightful concert will be had by all!

PS: We welcome accompanist Bill Keck to our CinnaGals Community. Bill brings decades of expertise to the program, having just spent 30+ years as Music Director/Conductor of the famed Beach Blanket Babylon. Farewell, BBB; hello, CinnaGals!
